This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
Burnt rock and quartz are symptoms of "marker" piles. They are deceptively similar to other ground piles with quartz - namely what I imagine as burials, but these blazed and burnt marker piles are not burials. And I am guessing, if you dug one up you would not find anything.
