I went out today to explore in the periphery of an area where I knew there was a rock piles site. The last time I was here I was with a friend at a garden party and we strolled away from the party into the woods where there were some rock piles. I thought it would be fun to go back and get a clearer picture of the site and a few pictures. What I found was more than I remembered, with several distinct clusters of rock piles in different places. So let me take them one cluster at a time.
First, I walked in from a road under some power lines and into the woods at the top of a low hill going south and west. There was a cold wind blowing. Almost as soon as I stepped into the woods the wind dropped off and I noticed a rock pile and then several more like it- piles on the ground, roughly oval, with few or no destinguishing characteristics.
They are spread out along the side of a stone wall and integrated with its structure.
This last picture shows a loose pile going uphill in the same direction as the stone wall behind it. The break in the wall contains another elongated rock pile which looks more related to field clearing than to ceremony. But the well separated small oval piles seem to me to be ceremonial.
