This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
I think Thoreau actually mentions rock piles in streams or ponds that were built by fish. When I have a chore to avoid sometime, I'll try to find it.
