This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
I think of the Fort Ancient site as one of the 'missing links' between the earthworks of the mound builders and the
ReplyDeletestoneworks of the east. Some descriptions you read of it say that the walls at Fort Ancient are of earth and stone. There was a large stone mound at the Newark earthworks, too, when colonists first got there, but it was taken apart for building materials.
