As usual rock piles are attributed to farmers. In this case Hohokam farmers.
This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
After moving out here to Arizona I am constantly astounded by the level of respect and attention that archaeological sites such as these get out here in comparison to sites in my former home in New England. It's like night and day. Out here, they actually care a great deal about these ancient cultural sites -- even for a people like the Hohokam who abandoned the area long ago and really don't have modern descendants fighting for preservation.
