This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
I guess the reason for the site location is because of the western wall of the gully is a bit of a cliff, forming a near horizon. Some of the sight-lines along the rock piles include boulders over at the foot of this western wall, and I am condident that positions along its upper rim are being marked/indicated by the lines of sight. Still it would be well worth going there and measuring the grid carefully. Also in the first frame of the movie you can see a second pile beyond the first one and a small standing stone beyond that. That is a different line of sight.
On the other hand, if you were to sit one one of those boulders looking east back towards the rock piles, with the wall at your back, then shadows at sunrise would project towards you and towards the wall behind you; or shadows at sunset would stretch back into the grid of rock piles.
