This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

Some cairns spared in subdivision plan

I cannot quite get the numbers, as they seem to be changing the meaning of "cairn" on the way through the article. Anyway this appears to be the latest, dated Dec. 31 2007.
You might check with Tom Paul, who showed me this site about five years ago, before it was about to be developed. He might have a better sense what cairns are to be preserved.
