Speaking of Dolmens...

Here is one I noticed at Madison Springs, behind the AMC hut in the pass between Mt. Madison and Mt. Adams in New Hampshire. There seemed to be a couple of others in the area. I showed this to Norman Muller one time and, interestingly, there was a corncob on the ground next to it. That white in the background is a huge vein of white quartz.

  1. Is it just me or does that look like a turtle? Probably just me.

  3. I'm sure you're right. It's no doubt a coincidence. But regardless of whether it's meant to be one, it looks much more like a turtle than almost anything I've seen called a turtle in my years around stonework aficianados, with the support stones as legs and the shell-like shape of the supported stone, with the rounded top and straight-ish skirt at the bottom. A natural simulacrum, but a nice one.
