This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

It is always awkward when you are sneaking around at the back of a shooting range (having started early in the morning) to hear the banging of guns begin as the day advances. Otherwise I would say: interpret "trasspassing" as "damage"; vow to not do it; then get in there for some better pictures.

Ever read the book Trespassing by John Hanson Mitchell? He would appreciate that new version of the Guthrie song.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading that and believe it has more material about rock piles than his other books. I also enjoyed trying to track down some of what he describes in Littleton.

Well, I meant to read Tresspassing but haven't -yet.
ReplyDeleteWoody wrote the song as a response to "God Bless America," called his song "God Already Blessed America" before using the "This Land" title.
People often leave some original verses out, like the sign thing.
He encouraged people to make up their own verses. He had an Indian friend who made up the verse:
"This land was my land, but now it's your land...this land was stole(n) by you from me..."
