Small outcrop site

More from northeastern Groton. Some of the outcrops and ridges north of Rocky Hill Rd have a few rock piles. My eyes were drawn to this minor trace:Nearby:A pretty nice pile. Here is another view:Other small subtle features on the same outcrop assure me this is a site:Here is another outcrop. A small rock pile on the right.

  1. I really like that second picture with the fallen branch in the foreground framing that nice pile. A striking image.

  2. I just can't help it: is that a deliberate representation of marginal scutes and a nuchal notch as well, enhanced into the boulder, above more "sculpting" to create a roundish turtle head, the missing stones perhaps more scutes??

  3. in the first phot, I meant to include...and in the third: there's that plate again over a head shaped stone, a flat sort of flipper on each side of it, scutes piled above...

  4. I sometimes think the "turtle vision" is over applied but, in this case, it seems to make sense. Especially as it helps give an interpretation to the second pic from end, which has the same form.
