I found these rock piles several miles north of where I live, a few miles north of a place called Dilltown which is along Rt 403 which comes out of Johnstown.

This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
Imagine my surprise in reading this post and realizing that Dilltown is only a couple of miles away from me in Johnstown. I was out that way a couple of weeks ago - surveying where I want to search next. I have to say - the "style" of the rockpiles and mounds are the same as I have been finding and posting at http://laurelhillwalks.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI've found a big rock pile on pennview MT.years ago..approximately 6feetwide by 6feet wide and 3feet high..out in the woods..we found a big rectangular stone at least 3 inches thick at the bottom of the pile..
ReplyDeleteThe rectangular stone looked like a lid...
