Serpent Mound [click here](PDF)
This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
Re the Serpent Mound (joking):
ReplyDeleteI was bothered by the vagueness of "Mounds created by North American Indian cultures about 700-3,700 years ago". Then I had a hard time getting past the Bering Land Bridge assumption. Having, by then, become critical of the author, Apostol, I wasn't sympathetic to his shotgun approach of relating every Indian activity to every natural phenomenon, from the geology, to the gravity and magnetism, to the water resources. I felt that the repeated use of the word "Ordovician" was a distraction.
