"As can be seen in the photograph opening this entire blog entry, the stone lions are surrounded by a ring of rocks with one entrance."
This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
Very interesting. The use of carved lions to "guard" temples, etc goes WAY back in Europe, Asia and Egypt.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a photo somewhere of the stone lions surrounded by a ring of white antlers. Placing the antlers must be done at certain times of the year for ceremonial purposes and then removed.
