This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
At the center of the picture, four stones in a little row branching off of the main row do not seem to have fallen from the row but rather appear to have been deliberately placed. A fifth stone in front of this may also be a part of this apparent structure. The small row appears to point in the direction of the large boulder.
In that small group of stones, the one that catches my eye is what appears to be a flat-topped stone - mortar or metate-like? - is the smaller stone resting on it?

ReplyDeleteI see it the way Chris does but note that Tim's turtle is precisely at the beginning of the four stones in a little row. So it works either way.

ReplyDeleteI did not notice up close. I was already looking across the wall.
