Piles at the lower outlines were like this:
It reminded me of the previous weekend (here).
This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

ReplyDeleteI already have from you a site which is pretty much at this location, just on the other side of the powerline, for which I have listed "several" stone piles. Is this the same site?
I don't yet have the 2 "smears" in my inventory, so I look forward to receiving information about those.
I meant the pipeline, not the powerline!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to remember what I found here in these woods in the past. I vaguely remember something I thought was bigger than these small piles. So I suspect the upper red dot is new (perhaps the old location was inaccurate?)
ReplyDeleteAbout the "smears" I was not planning to write more about them, other than observing proximity and similarity to the long "mounds" I found the previous weekend (across the street - and mentioned in the link at the bottom of this post).
I kinda want to say these smears remind me of what I was calling "Ravine culture" - with piles layed out in a line or "long mounds". These features in Framingham are more like those northern "Ravine" features, so they have me intrigued. Do other nearby hillsides and shoulders have similar features? Down here in the Sudbury watershed, there is less material in general.

ReplyDeleteThere are examples of piles laid out in long lines in the Catskills and further west in New York state.
Are the "smears" actual piles which have been disturbed, are they stone rows, or what?
I'll post other photos
