and wonder: "Why would a farmer do that?"
But it is the wrong question. The correct question is: what is it?
This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
The mound is the head of a Snake/Great Serpent, the "wall" the tail. More snakes in the distance. An Indigenous person is calling upon the Serpent's protection, each enclosure Ceremonially burned at a certain time...
ReplyDeleteI think they cannot be snakes. In the background, the walls form 'T's and turn at right angles. In the foreground, there is an additional unconnected pile to the left and the larger mound is not at the end of a wall but at a corner where two walls meet.
ReplyDeleteAm I missing the point? I think you mean: Why would a Yankee farmer pile up the big mass of stones to the right in the photo?

ReplyDeleteI will be posting other views and other items nearby this corner mound and we can look at additional info for this place.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the ruined pile to the left of the wall, and I'd like to know what's going on to the right of the large stone mound.
ReplyDeleteI'll show some other pictures
