Interesting:

This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.
An interesting site, to be sure . . . but . . .
ReplyDeleteUnless trees grow a lot slower in Ontario than they do in the States, none of these trees looks to me older than about 100 years! What is the author's background in studying tree rings? Deciduous trees add two rings per year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall, so his estimates may be doubled.
Also, it is not possible to estimate the age of a soil column based upon its depth - too many variables! Soil type, grain size, slope, etc., etc.

ReplyDeleteIn the end I decided it was not interesting. A quarry site and perhaps a rock pile site.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Curt on this. Also, the term megalith is not proper in this context. Simply large rock or boulder.
