South End of the Big Lake (CT)

 

I caught a glimpse of a gap in some stonework as I turned onto the highway north,
 by the south end of the Big Lake.



An interesting segment of stacked stones:

I see a couple of manitou or spirit sones at the base of the wall you photographed. One is a small triangular stone, and the
following image shows a possible head-and-shoulders gray manitou stone. To me, the manitou stones confirm that
the stone wall or mound they are placed against is pre-colonial.

Norman: the 3rd photo has two as well, at the opening that attracted my attention in the first place...
