This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

I don't know about the picture, but it sure is a cool site.

Looks like the boulder is waiting to bite the next hiker that passes.
It is a kind of split wedged rock, isn't it?
I don't see it as a split wedged boulder. I see it as a natural shape on the bottom of the boulder that was filled.

There is another boulder near by that has similar but smaller alcoves.
