This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

A vision pit? Such stone-lined pits have been found in Ontario.
I believe "vision pits" are a modern day myth. The Indian from Ontario who called them "vision pits" or "thunderbird nests" also admitted he did not know what they were and that they were made by "old ones" - now gone.
I read an article about them, written by an archaeologist with the surname Noble. A half dozen or more of these stone-lined pits were found near a lake in Ontario. I didn't find any evidence not to believe what was written. If I remember correctly, there was a map of the site along with one or two photos. See page 146 in Manitou.
There was no evidence of vision quest.
