This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

The history books tell us of the site of an, "Indian fort," built using stone in addition to earth and wood, somewhere in the vicinity of your photograph.
I remember reading about that and paddling over, thinking there be signs posted leading me right to the fort - but there weren't...
It's north west of your map on Shumunkanuc Hill.
There will be a NEARA field trip next month.
