Looks like this is similar to the landscape design of ancient Inca tribes in Peru, if I am not mistaken.
This is an excellent presentation. Well worth the time to listen to the whole thing. The images starting at 51 minutes into the presentation are definitely consistent with your Uktena post, pwax.
