This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

I often wonder what the creators of these stone piles had in mind, with small stones piled on larger, bedrock boulders. What were they trying to illustrate? Are the smaller stones holding down the larger one for some reason, or is there a spiritual connection being made to the boulder and the Underworld? Such is the case with springs, so why not boulders? Could these smaller stones be individual donations to the pile? Maybe someone could say, "This is my stone. This is my connection to the Underworld and my ancestors." Or a two way connection, entrance and exit. I'm still parsing this one out. BTW, Tim's full article at Waking Up on Turtle Island is good. Great site.
