Some NEARA events

From Peter Anick:
Here are a few upcoming events you may find of interest:

This Sunday, (June12), NEARA will be holding an open house 10:00-4:00 at its new library and archives location at 140 Sheep Davis Rd Pembroke, NH. Drop by to mingle and see what NEARA has amassed over the last 50 years.

Also this Sunday, at Dighton Rock State Park (June 12, 1-3pm), NEARA member Steve Voluckas will be presenting: CROSSING PATHS, CROSSING THE ATLANTIC: his research proposing that Vinland of the Icelandic Sagas was located on Cape Breton and eastern Nova Scotia and that an expedition 400 years later, arrived at the same location identified as a probable Norse settlement.
Dighton Rock State Park, Bayview Avenue, Berkley, MA (508) 644-5522

If you'd like to try some archaeology, the NH SCRAP field school may have some spots left.  They have several sessions running between June 19 and the end of July.  For info: http://www.nhas.org/documents/2016-docs/2016-SCRAP-flier.pdf   This is a fun and inexpensive way to learn how to do archaeology on a real dig.

A nice place to watch the summer solstice sunset in from the inside of Upton Chamber.  I'm not planning an official trip there this year but you can go on your own.  Sun sets behind Pratt Hill a little after 7pm.  Bring boots (and a flashlight) if you plan to go into the chamber.

It was great to see a lot of you at the Spring conference in Maine.  Our next conference will be a lot closer, in Billerica, so mark your calendars for Oct. 28-30!

I am planning to hold some field trips this summer, probably continuing our exploration of the mid and western parts of the state.  If you have specific suggestions or would like to lead a field trip, please contact me.

Best regards and happy solstice,
Peter
