Nice photos! Cardinal flower and the great lobelia--I always think of these two as basically the same plant, but optimized for hummingbirds on one hand and bees, which prefer blue, on the other. While other creatures can plunder its nectar, only hummingbirds can pollinate the cardinal flower, making its presence proof positive of the presence of hummingbirds.
