This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

Snake Meadow Hill - Site 1
Coming down the northwest side of the hill, getting over into the valley of Snake Meadow brook, I finally came across a rock pile site. The site seemed to diagonal down and across the slope through the pine saplings. These were small piles with big rocks but without much in the way of distinguishing characteristics. There were probably around ten piles like these and, as I went, they seemed to get bigger and nicer. Then there were a couple of genuinely substantial piles. Seeing this next one, I thought: OK at least one good rock pile for the day. But there was already something larger, looming through the trees.
