This stone firebreak won’t burn. Challenge the young men to move the big stones (and I should redraw this with turtle feet and a head on the big stone), and get the kids to help by creating smaller turtles between them. Hand axes and make good turtle feet…
Pick up a stone hand axe from where you (or your Grandfather) left it on the firebreak so you don’t have to carry it around and burn the base of some trees. Remove the charred wood with the hand axe and pile on the poles to extend your fence upward to keep the deer from leaping over it…
Here’s the remnant of the zigzag 300 years later. It was easier to make the road on the side of the stones than move them…
