Another style of Turtle. Turtle piles v.2

There is a famous "turtle" at Great Brook Farms in Carlisle. Here is a photo by Tim Fohl

I remember going out on the summer solstice sunset to see the sunset towards which, we are told, that turtle is facing. We were treated to a lecture by a Mohawk Indian about this turtle and about how it matched the mythology of his tribe - right down to the pine tree sapling growing out of its back [since vandalised].

There is another similar structure in Carlisle on the Towle Land. Since I pointed it out to Tim, I hope he does not mind my reproducing his picture here.
Tim has pointed out that this turtle faces the winter solstice sunrise along a line which goes over a prominent hill in Lexington, Whipple Hill. At that hill there are some rock piles - hard by the modern housing. This same solstice line appears to run through other interesting sites.

So this is another style of turtle. This kind, at least, appears related to long distance viewing of sunrises and sunsets.
