Reader Dr Joseph writes that this was found in a field inside the town. Any comments?

This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

The polish looks man made.
How big is it anyway?
Can you guess? I thought it an interesting example of how scale is deduced from subtle things. Here, the fabric appears to be a good quality cotton sheet. The dimensions of the folds suggests this is a large heavy rock.
Maybe I am wrong. I am guessing 11" top-to-bottom.
