Looking at that boulder, it seems to me it is not a glacial erratic -it has sharp edges that would not appear on a boulder that went through the glacier. I wonder if it was separated from the underlying bedrock nearby, which would be additional evidence that this is man-made.

That's an excellent observation, and I agree. The entire area around the boulder should be photographed, but since the sub is not operational, this is not going to happen anytime soon.

Vyacheslav Mizin's article in the NEARA Journal (Vol 40/2, 2006) titled "Perched Boulders: Glacier or Man-Made in the Northern Hemisphere" illustrates similar examples to the one in Lake MacDonald, and infers that these types of boulders are a common feature of the northern hemisphere, from Russian Lapland to Canada and the northern part of the U.S. I also believe they are very, very ancient, probably some of the oldest stone accents we find.
