This is about rock piles and stone mound sites in New England. A balance is needed between keeping them secret and making them public. Also arrowheads, stone tools and other surface archaeology.

Nice find.
What is the material, obsidian? Since I guess you found the artifact in Nevada,
I couldn't help but think back to Louis Leakey and his involvement with the Calico
site in California, which may not be that far from where you found the interesting
projectile point. Leakey was derided for his involvement with Calico, but time may
eventually prove him right.
Thanks.
I do not think this is projectile. It is too heavy and dinged on one edge (top right of item in last picture). On the other hand, I am not sure what snapped off the base.
It is not quite obsidian. See some later posts for more discussion - it is volcanic and a bit granular, not glassy. Today I found a flake of genuine obsidian - dark black and like plastic. Quite different. Is it possible for nodes of "chert" to develop inside a bed of volcanic ash?
