Beautiful flaking on an old stone tool from Nevada

This was from the same small hill I started with on Saturday. Of the several items I picked up, this one was as nicely flaked as that blade I posted a few days ago.

This is a chunky item, that does not appear to be broken. I need to look more for use wear.

I find this flaking just gorgeous.

A core perhaps? Is a beauty anyway.

That is not what cores look like. This has primary, secondary, and tertiary flaking and [I think] some use wear.

FYI a core usually is a solid block from which single [primary] flakes have been removed.

As I understand it in paleo times people would carry a chunk of good material with them and drive off blades as needed while also using the core as a chopper or knife so they could travel as light as possible. Not saying that is what you have but a core could show use wear.
